Follow the Iditarod
The "Last Great Race" 1,049 miles

Dog sledding has been an important part of Alaska's past. Read about that history in the above sites. Students know Disney's story of Balto but are often unfamiliar with the original serum run to Nome. There were many heros of that serum run, one was a dog named Togo. The serum run followed the original Iditarod trail which was used during heavily during the gold rush to transport supplies to towns. I hope you find yourself becoming more interested in Alaska, mushing, and adventure as you follow this "Last Great Race!"
